THORNTON MELON ENTERS BUSINESS CLASS
Some of the funniest scenes in Back to School happen when Rodney Dangerfield's Thornton Melon starts challenging the people who think they know more than him.
This business-class scene is a perfect example.

Thornton is a wealthy self-made businessman who never had the traditional college education that his professors value.
But he has something the professor does not have.
Years of real-world business experience.
And when Dr. Phillip Barbay begins explaining how a fictional company should be created, Thornton immediately notices that the classroom theory is missing some very important details.
Movieclips describes the scene as Thornton challenging Dr. Barbay about the true cost of doing business in the real world.
THE PROFESSOR HAS THE THEORY
Dr. Barbay approaches business from an academic perspective.
The students are supposed to learn by creating a fictional company.
They need to think about construction, logistics, management, costs, and other aspects of running a business.
On paper, the plan sounds reasonable.
Then Thornton starts listening.
And that is when the lesson takes a completely different direction.
Thornton has spent years actually...
